Budget cut sa DOST research inalmahan ni Sen. Francis Tolentino
Itinutulak ni Senator Francis Tolentino ang karagdagang pondo para sa Philippine Council for Industry Energy and Emerging Technology Research (PCIEETR) ng Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Sinabi ni Tolentino napakahalaga ng mandato ng PCIEETR sa pagbibigay suporta sa mga bagong kompaniya.
Aniya hindi matatawaran ang maitutulong ng naturang opisina sa mga kompaniya para mapasigla muli ang ekonomiya ng bansa kapag naabot na ang ‘herd immunity’ sa vaccination rollout ng gobyerno.
Puna ni Tolentino tinapyasan at bumaba na lamang sa P815.22 milyon ang budget ng PCIEER sa susunod na taon at ito aniya ay maling hakbang.
“I humbly feel that if there is a program that should be sustained and nourished this is it. I believe the reduction in budget is probably not timely and relevant because once we go through a post-pandemic period, we need start-up groups similar to what they are doing in Silicon Valley and other areas. We have to sustain the creativity of our youth, our young entrepreneurs. This will be needed post-pandemic,” sabi ng senador.
Nais din nito na madagdagan ang tatlong abogado na nasa DOST – Legal Department.
Sinuportahan naman ni Sen. Joel Villanueva, ang sponsor ng 2022 budget ng DOST, ang posisyon ni Tolentino.
