Halos 500 trafficking, illegal recruitment victims nasagip mula January hanggang September 2021
Umabot sa 495 trafficking at illegal recruitment victims ang naharang ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) sa unang tatlong kwarter ng 2021.
Sinabi ni BI Commissioner Jaime Morente na nasa kabuuang 8,413 pasahero naman ang ipinagpaliban ang pag-aalis mula Enero hanggang Setyembre, kung saan karamihan ay dahil sa pagiging improperly documented.
Sa nasabing bilang, 90 porsyento o 6,909 pasahero ang naharang sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) habang ang nalalabing bilang ng pasahero ay napigilan sa mga paliparan sa Clark, Pampanga at Mactan, Cebu.
325 pasahero rito ang natagpuang potential victims ng trafficking at dinala sa Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) para sa isasagawang imbestigasyon at pagsasampa ng kaso laban sa kanilang handlers at recruiters, habang 170 ang inendorso sa Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) dahil sa discrepancy sa kanilang work documents.
“Despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic, there has been no letup in our drive against human trafficking,” ayon kay Morente.
Dagdag nito, “We have a mandate to perform in seeing to it that our kababayan are not victimized by these syndicates who take advantage of them.”
Hindi aniya titigil ang ahensya para mapakulong ang mga trafficker at illegal recruiter.
