“Maria Ressa’s historic feat is definitive proof that press freedom is still universally recognized as a critical component in any functional democracy, and a monumental slap in the face of oppressive and tyrannical regimes, both past and present,” sabi ng senadora.

Noong Oktubre 8 inanunsiyo ng Norwegian Nobel Committee na kabilang si Reesa sa dalawang mamamahayag na 2021 Nobel Peace Prize winners dahil sa kanilang pagprotekta sa ‘freedom of the press and freedom of expression.’

“At a crucial time for journalists in the Philippines, Ressa’s victory sends a message loud and clear: the world is watching and democracy overcomes even the strongest forces to subdue it,” dagdag pa ng namumuno sa Senate Committee on Social Justice.
