Aksidente sa mass transport system, hindi dapat nangyayari – Sen. Poe

Labis na ikinalungkot ni Senator Grace Poe ang insidente ng sunog sa isang MRT-3 coach noong nakaraang Sabado, October 9.

Dapat aniyang tinitiyak ng gobyerno na ligtas ang lahat ng uri ng pampublikong transportasyon hindi lamang mula sa COVID-19 kundi maging sa mga aksidente.

“Our people expect the government to alleviate their transport woes amid the pandemic by sustaining the safe operation of public transport like the MRT,” sabi ni Poe.

Sa sunog malapit sa Guadalupe Station, walong pasahero ang nasaktan.

Sinabi na ng pamunuan ng MRT-3 na masusi nang iniimbestigahan ang insidente, maging ang Sumitomo Corp., ang maintenance provider ng EDSA mass transport system ay nagsasagawa rin ng sariling imbestigasyon.

Ayon pa kay Poe, bukod sa pagtutok sa mga big-ticket infrastructure projects, kailangang napapangalagaan din ang public transport system.

“The maintenance of the trains must be a critical part of government operations no less. Buhay ng ating mga kababayan ang nakataya dito. We’ve seen that even during a pandemic, our public transportation has remained the backbone of sustainable mobility which is essential to economic recovery,” ayon pa kay Poe.
