DILG, pinaghahanda ang LGUs sa La Niña sa gitna ng pandemya

Ipinag-utos ng Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) sa lahat ng lokal na pamahaan na magsagawa ng precautionary measures upang mabawasan ang magiging epekto ng La Niña sa gitna ng COVID-19 pandemic.

Base sa forecast ng PAGASA, may 70 hanggang 80 porsyentong tsansa na magkaroon ng La Niña sa October 2021 hanggang sa unang kwarter ng 2022.

Bunsod nito, maaring makaranas ng above-normal rainfall conditions sa maraming lugar sa bansa sa mga susunod na buwan.

Ayon kay DILG Secretary Eduardo Año, tiyakin dapat ng lahat ng LGU na maging handa sa posibleng epekto ng La Niña.

“We always have to be preemptive instead of reactive in disaster response, which is why as early as now we encourage LGUs to convene their respective Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (LDRRMCs), conduct La Niña pre-disaster risk assessment (PDRA), and update their local contingency plans or La Niña action plans for Hydrometeorological Hazards,” saad ng kalihim.

Dagdag nito, “LGUs are also encouraged to engage the participation of Local Health Officers to ensure that critical COVID-19 prevention protocols are already integrated.”

Hinikayat ni Año ang lahat ng LGU na i-assess ang structural integrity at kapasidad ng mga pasilidad, lalo na ang mga ginagamit bilang evacuation centers, vaccination centers, at multi-purpose buildings, LIGTAS-COVID centers, health centers, at ospital para sa COVID-19 cases.

Kasabay ng mga paghahanda, hinikayat ng kagawaran ang LGUs na magsagawa ng monthly assessment at siguraduhing maayos ang Early-Warning Systems (EWS).

Sinabihan din ng DILG ang LGUs na mahigpit na makipag-ugnayan sa iba pang ahensya ng gobyerno tulad ng PAGASA, DENR-MGB, at DOH.
