Siyam na senador hiniling sa Comelec ang voter’s registration extension

Hiniling ng Senado sa pamamagitan ng isang resolusyon sa Commission on Elections (Comelec) na mapalawig ang voter’s registration.

Inaprubahan ng Senado ang Resolution No. 851 na humihimok sa Comelec na palawigin pa ang deadline ng pagpaparehistro ng mga botante sa darating na Setyembre 30.

Sa kanyang privilege speech, sinabi ni Sen. Francis Pangilinan na itinakda ang deadline bago pa man magkaroon ng pandemya.

“It is a pre-pandemic deadline. Nobody could have anticipated how this public health emergency would severely impact our daily lives, let alone voter registration,” sabi pa ni Pangilinan, ang naghain ng resolusyon.

Ipinakita ni Pangilinan ang video footages na nagpapakita ng mahabang pila ng mga nais magpa-rehistro, bukod sa mga testimoniya na hindi sila umabot sa cut-off period sa kabila ng utos ng Comelec na hanggang alas-7 ng gabi ang pagpaparehistro mula Lunes hanggang Biyernes at hanggang ala-5 ng hapon tuwing weekend at holidays.

Binanggit pa niya na simula noong 2001, ang voter’s registration deadline ay hanggang Oktubre 31 o higit pa.

Sinuportahan naman nina President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto, Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, Minority Leader Frank Drilon at Sens. Risa Hontiveros, Imee Marcos, Leila de Lima, Nancy Binay at Joel Villanueva ang resolusyon.
