Pag-atake ni Pangulong Duterte sa Senado posibleng magresulta sa ‘constitutional crisis’
Nakiusap si Senator Leila de Lima kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na tigilan na ang pagpapalabas ng mga pahayag na nagpapakita ng kawalan ng respeto sa Senado o sa mga senador.
Inihain ni de Lima ang Senate Resolution No. 898 para magpalabas ng ‘sense of the Senate’ na magpapa-alala kay Pangulong Duterte na magpakita ng respeto sa co-equal branch ng gobyerno.
“It behooves each of the branches of our government to treat each other with courtesy in the performance of their respective constitutional mandates,” sabi nito.
Dagdag pa ni de Lima; “Petty, inflammatory, and personal statements by the President against the Senate or any of its members only lead to the erosion of public trust and confidence in our democratic institutions.”
Sunod-sunod na binanatan ni Pangulong Duterte sina Senator Richard Gordon, ang namumuno sa pag-iimbestiga sa ‘overpriced’ medical supplies at isinunod niya sina Minority Leader Frank Drilon at Senator Panfilo Lacson.
Maging ang mga pag-iimbestiga sa Senado ay pinuna din ng Punong Ehekutibo sa pagsasabing nasasayang lang ang oras at napapahiya lang ang kanyang mga opisyal, bukod sa wala naman magandang naidudulot ang mga pagdinig.
Ngunit diin ni de Lima dapat ay maging magandang ehemplo ang pangulo ng bansa sa pagsunod sa demokratikong proseso.
