CHR, nag-iimbestiga sa pagpanaw ng isang Grade 10 student nang dahil umano sa hazing
Nagsasagawa na ng imbestigasyon ang Commission on Human Rights (CHR) sa pagkasawi ng isang Grade 10 student sa San Enrique, Negros Occidental.
Base sa ulat ng pulisya, maaring hazing ang dahilan ng pagpanaw ng estudyante dahil sa nakitang paddle sa bahay ng isa sa mga suspek.
Napaulat din na sumali umano ang biktima noong Marso ngunit hindi pa isinailalim sa initiation rites dahil sa pagiging menor de edad nito.
Bago ang pagpanaw ng biktima, isang araw matapos ang kaniyang 18 taong kaarawan, inamin ng biktima sa kaniyang mga magulang na pinalo siya ng paddle ng mga suspek.
Ayon kay Atty. Jacqueline Ann de Guia, tagapagsalita ng CHR, matindi ang paninindigan ng ahensya laban sa hazing.
“While online schooling has been the norm during the pandemic, we remind schools and higher education institutions that they remain duty-bound to uphold and protect the rights of its students, and hazing is a direct violation of their student’s right to safety, security, and a threat to their well-being,” saad nito.
Habang iniimbestigahan, umapela ang CHR sa Department of Education, kasunod ng kanilang Child Protection Policy, na magkaroon ng kamalayan sa naturang insidente.
“Furthermore, we urge schools, higher education institutions and the security sector to ensure proper and complete implementation of the Anti-Hazing Act of 2008 and to practice vigilance in monitoring the country’s schools and universities,” dagdag nito.
Nakiramay ang CHR sa pamilya at mga mahal sa buhay ng biktima.
