Pinasinayaan na ang bagong development projects sa Catarman Airport, araw ng Huwebes (September 2).

Pinangunahan ang seremonya ni Transportation Secretary Art Tugade, kasama si Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) General Manager Jim Sydiongco.

“Today, I am happy to be with you because Catarman is a shining example of our efforts to do improvements in the country,” pahayag ng kalihim.

“Nakita ko ‘yung potential ng tourism na andoon sa Catarman. Baka manatiling potensyal ‘yan forever kung hindi aayusin ‘yung paliparan. Kaya ito ‘ho ‘yung pangalawang dahilan na nagtulak sa akin na ayusin ‘yung paliparan nang sa ganoon ay mabigyang-buhay at patotoo ‘yung potensyal ng turismo ng Catarman,” aniya pa.

Kabilang sa mga natapos na proyekto sa naturang paliparan ang konstruksyon ng Passenger Terminal Building (PTB), karagdagang taxiway, at perimeter fence, pagpapalawak ng apron, re-blocking ng dilapidated apron pavement, asphalt overlay, at shoulder grade correction sa runway.

Mula sa dating 50, kaya nang maserbisyuhan nito ang 150 pasahero anumang oras, at 50,000 naman kada taon.

Dagdag ni Tugade, “Kaya’t nandidito kami upang sa gano’n, bigyang puspos at ipagtulakan ‘yung mga improvements na makakapagbago at makakadagdag sa comfort and convenience ng pamumuhay dito sa Catarman.”

Sinabi ng kagawaran na magbubukas ng oportunidad ang pagsasaayos ng paliparan.
