Pagbibigay ng Senate Medal of Excellence, itinulak ni Sen. Tolentino
Sinang-ayunan ng mga senador ang Senate Resolution No. 781 para sa pagkakaroon ng Senate Medal of Excellence.
Ipinaliwanag ni Sen. Francis Tolentino, na nagtulak sa resolusyon kasama sina Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri at Sen. Sonny Angara, ang mga Filipino na nakatanggap ng major international award ay awtomatikong bibigyan ng Senate Medal of Excellence.
Aniya, kabilang sa gagawaran nito ay mga Filipinong nagawaran ng Nobel Prize, Pulitzer Prize, A.M. Turing Award, Magsaysay Award at Olympic medal.
“The said international recognitions set the highest standards of excellence, nationalism, and virtue that their fellow countrymen can aspire for,” sabi ng senador.
Aniya, ang mga unang mabibigyan ng Senate Medal of Excellence ay ang mga atletang Filipino na nag-uwi ng medalya sa pakikilahok sa 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Dagdag pa nito, ang award na ibibigay ng Senado ay katulad ng Congressional Gold Medal ng U.S. Congress na ibinibigay bilang pagkilala sa natatanging nagawa ng kanilang mamamayan o institusyon.
