Itinalaga ni PCG Commandant, Admiral George Ursabia Jr. sina Vice Admiral Artemio Abu, kasama sina Rear Admiral Joseph Coyme at Commodore Charlie Rances, para pangunahan ang Task Force na mayroong 19 task groups.
Operational ito sa lahat ng PCG districts, lalo na sa Northwestern Luzon, Northeastern Luzon, Palawan, at National Capital Region – Central Luzon.
Sa pamamagitan nito, gagamitin ang lahat ng asset ng PCG upang mapaigting ang pagpapatupad ng lahat ng domestic at international maritime laws, treaties, conventions, at memorandum circulars na inilabas ng ahensya para sa maritime safety.
“We will be focusing only on activities that are doable, tangible, and with high impact on the safety aspect of our job, not to mention the desire to advance our sovereignty interest,” pahayag ni Abu sa pulong ng PCG Task Force Kaligatasan sa Karagatan noong August 4.
Binigyang diin din ng Task Force Commander na kailangang pagtibayin ang kooperasyon sa Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), lalo na sa maintenance ng PPA-procured buoys.
Prayoridad din ang kooperasyon sa National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF – WPS) para sa swift installation ng sovereign markers sa exclusive economic zone (EEZ) ng Pilipinas.
Maghahatid din ang naturang task force ng agresibong maritime safety-related services sa buong bansa.
“Rest assured we will provide assistance in the education and development of Coast Guard personnel by providing exercises and seminars related to maritime safety. They will be trained in manning Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS), deploying maritime search and rescue teams, and conducting marine casualty investigations, among others,” dagdag ni Abu.
