‘Tax variant’ ng BIR na bumura sa VAT exemption ng medical manufacturers pinapipigil ni Sen. Imee Marcos
Nais ni Senator Imee Marcos na mabigyan ng proteksyon ang mga local manufacturers ng personal protective equipment (PPE) at medical supplies sa desisyon ng Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
Tinukoy ni Marcos ang BIR Regulation 09-2021 na binawi ang 12% value added tax (VAT) exemption sa pagbenta ng raw materials, packaging supplies at sa iba pang mga serbisyo ng export-oriented manufacturers kasama na ang critical healthcare suppliers.
“This mutation of tax regulation threatens to cancel gains some exporters have already made toward economic recovery and will push them back into a critical state,” diin nito.
Dagdag pa ng namumuno sa Senate Committee on Economic Affairs, may mga garment exporters na gumawa na rin ng PPE’s, surgical masks at ibang pang gamit pang-medikal para lang magtuloy ang kanilang operasyon.
Diin pa ni Marcos, marami sa mga ito ang kumikita na lang ng mas mababa pa sa limang porsiyento at malulugi sila sa paniningil pa ng BIR ng 12% VAT.
Higit isang taon nang isinusulong ni Marcos ang pagbibigay ng tax exemptions sa mga gumagawa ng local critical healthcare products sa pamamagitan ng inihain niyang Senate Bill 1708 o ang Healthcare Manufacturing and Pandemic Protection Act.
