Pagsasanib ng Landbank at UCPB nais maimbestigahan sa Kongreso

Hiniling ni Senator Leila de Lima na maimbestigahan sa Senado ang planong pagsasanib ng Landbank at United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB).

Sinabi ni de Lima kuwestiyonable ang plano at nangangamba at may babala dito ang Fitch Ratings.

Ikinatuwiran ng senadora sa inihain niyang Senate Resolution No. 771 na kailangan ay matiyak na mabibigyan proteksyon pa rin ang mga magniniyog sa bansa gayundin ang kliyente ng Landbank.

“The contrasting mandates of Landbank and UCPB should be reason enough to question, if not forthwith demand, the termination of the merger proceedings, as was done by the government when it halted the merger proceedings involving DBP and Landbank in 2016,” dagdag nito.

Binanggit ni de Lima ang obserbasyon ng Fitch Ratings na ang pagsasanib ng dalawang bangko ay maaring magkaroon ng negatibong epekto sa credit profile ng Landbank dahil ang UCPB ay may P22 bilyon utang.

“With Landbank’s charter mandating it to prioritize the banking needs of the agrarian reform program and other rural groups including the fisherfolk, as well as servicing the needs of OFWs, it should not be distracted therefrom to the possible detriment of these people whose welfare is at stake. UCPB’s mandate is clear: to service Philippine coconut farmers,” dagdag katuwiran pa ni de Lima.
