Sen. Francis Tolentino pinuna mababang puwesto ng Ph passport sa global ranking

Nabahala si Senator Francis Tolentino sa mababang ranking ng Philippine passports sa 2021 Henley Passport Index.

Ayon kay Tolentino dapat ay pagtuunan ng sapat na pansin ng Department of Foreign Affairs na pang-77 ang Philippine passports.

“It is indicative not just of the survey done, but the power of our passport,” banggit ni Tolentino sa pagdinig ng Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, na pinamunuan ni Sen. Koko Pimentel.

“The passport is the badge of citizenship and you should be proud of that. Ngayon, kung downgraded ang passport natin, medyo downgraded ang pagtanggap sa atin ng host country,” katuwiran pa ng senador.

Sa pagpuwesto ng Philippine passport na ika-77, nangangahulugan na maaring magamit ito sa 66 bansa ng hindi nangangailangan ng visa at sa 160 destinasyon sa mundo na kailangan naman ng visa.

Kasabay nito, hinimok ni Tolentino ang DFA na magpasaklolo sa Philippine Postal Service para sa mga passport applications, na ginagawa na sa US at European Union.

Ang suhestiyon na ito ni Tolentino ay maaring ikunsidera ng DFA, ayon kay Office of Consular Affairs Executive Dir. Ma. Alnee Gamble.
