Sen. Tolentino, sinabing hindi dapat hayaan ng DFA ang pagkumpiska ng passport ng OFWs

Hiniling ni Senator Francis Tolentino sa Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) na protektahan ang karapatan ng overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) na hawakan ang kanilang passport habang nagtatrabaho sa ibang bansa.

Ginawa ito ni Tolentino sa pagdinig ng Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, na pinamumunuan ni Sen. Koko Pimentel, kaugnay sa mga panukala na amyendahan ang Philippine Passport Act.

“We can make it explicit in our passports that it would be illegal for foreign employers to confiscate passports of Filipino workers,” sabi ng senador.

Diin niya, habang may bisa ang Philippine passport, hindi dapat ito kumpiskahin ng private employer ng OFW.

Paliwanag ni Tolentino, sa ganitong paraan ay alam ng foreign employers na ilegal na kumpiskahin ang pasaporte ng kanilang empleyadong Filipino.

Maari naman aniyang maiparating ito ng DFA sa gobyerno ng ibang bansa at ayon kay Office of Consular Affairs Executive Dir. Ma. Alnee Gamble, maari naman maipatupad ang nais ng senador.
