Satellite technology-based internet connection inihirit ni Sen. Win Gatchalian sa service providers

Hinikayat ni Senator Sherwin Gatchalian ang internet service providers sa bansa na magkaroon ng direct acess sa satellite technology para mas mapagbuti ang pagbibigay serbisyo.

Naniniwala din ang senador na sa ganitong paraan ay bababa ang halaga ng internet connection sa bansa.

“Limited use and low demand may make satellite broadband in the country expensive but in the long run, it can lower the cost as long as more demand will be created,” sabi ni Gatchalian.

Itinutulak ni Gatchalian ang Satellite-Based Technologies for Internet Connectivity Act of 2021 para hindi na kailanganin pa ang pagkakaroon ng prangkisa at provisional authority o certificate of public convenience and necessity mula sa National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) sa pag-aalok ng internet service.

“Dito sa batas na inihain ko, hindi na kailangang kumuha ng franchise kaya mas madaling makahikayat ng mga pribadong kumpanya at mga dayuhang mamumuhunan na pumasok sa industriya para mapalawak ang merkado ” ayon sa vice chairman ng Senate Committee on Economic Affairs.

Layon din aniya ng kanyang panukala na mapalakas pa ang EO No. 127 na nagbibigay laya sa telcos at internet service providers na magkaroon ng direct access sa satellite systems sa pag-aalok ng internet services.

Lumakas ang internet usage sa bansa sa pagkasa ng online learning at work from home arrangement dahil sa pandemya.
