Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, na kritikal sa war on drugs, bagong CBCP president

Nahalal bilang pangulo ng Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) si Bishop Pablo Virgilio David sa online plenary assembly ng mga obispo sa bansa.

Kilalang kritiko ng ‘war on drugs’ ng administrasyong-Duterte si Bishop David, na nagsilbing vice president ng CBCP sa pamamahala ni outgoing President Archbishop Romulo Valles.

Una nang ibinunyag ni Bishop David na nakatanggap siya ng mga pagbabanta sa kanyang buhay matapos ang panghihikayat ni Pangulong Duterte na gulpihin, patayin at pagnakawan ang mga mayayamang obispo.

Naordinahan sa pagkapari ang 62-anyos na obispo noong 1983 sa Archdiocese of San Fernando at naitalaga bilang auxiliary bishop noong 2006 bago siya nailipan sa Diocese of Caloocan noong 2016.

Samantala, nahalal naman na kapalit ni Bishop David sa kanyang dating puwesto si Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara ng Diocese of Pasig.
