276 na smuggled carnivorous plants nahuli ng BOC, DENR
Nasamsam ng Bureau of Customs-NAIA (BOC-NAIA), katuwang ang Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), ang ilegal na na-import na 276 carnivorous plants sa Paircargo Warehouse sa Pasay City noong July 05, 2021.
Nadiskubre ang carnivorous plants sa ginawang 100 porsyentong physical examination ng imported 10 packages mula sa Netherlands.
Lumabas din sa beripikasyon ng DENR na ilegal na na-import ang mga halaman sa bansa dahil wala itong Sanitary and Phytosanitary Import Clearance at CITES Permit mula sa kagawaran.
Tinukoy na ang carnivorous plants ay Drosera, Nepenthes, Dionaea, Sarracenia, Pinguicula, at Cephalotus.
Tinatayang nagkakahalaga ang carnivorous plants ng P150,000.
Deklarado ang carnivorous plants bilang ‘critically endangered’ at kabilang sa mga kakaiba at most endangered na halaman.
Ang pangongolekta at pagkakalakal ng naturang insect-eating plants ay paglabag sa ilalim ng Republic Act (RA) No. 9147 o Philippine Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.
Dinala ang mga kargamento sa DENR para sa rehabilitasyon at pangangalaga alinsunod sa Section 11 ng Republic Act 9147 at Section 1147 ng Republic Act 10863 o Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) at Section 8 ng Customs Administrative Order No. 10-2020.
Tiniyak ng BOC at DENR na seryoso sila sa pinaigting na border protection laban sa illegal wildlife trade para sa wildlife protection at conservation.
