Turuan ng DOE, NGCP sa isyu sa brownouts, hindi makakatulong sa economic recovery

Pinuna ni Senator Imee Marcos ang pagtuturuan at sisihan ng Department of Energy (DOE) at National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) kaugnay sa nararanasang power interruptions.

Ayon kay Marcos hindi ito makakatulong sa pagsusumikap na mapasigla muli ang ekonomiya ng bansa.

“The DOE and NGCP should quit this blame game. As quarantines are eased, curfews are lifted, and vaccination is ramped up, businesses will be resuming operations for longer hours that demand more electricity. We also expect face-to-face classes and regular rail transport to gradually resume,” ayon sa senadora.

Pagdidiin niya, hindi kakayanin ng ekonomiya ang matagal na pagkawala ng kuryente tulad aniya ng nangyari noong dekada ’90 kung kailan binalewala ang mga solusyon dapat sa isyu ng enerhiya.

Sinabi pa ng namumuno sa Senate Committee on Economic Affairs kailangan na rin paghandaan ang inaasahang pagkaubos sa 2024 ng natural gas sa Malampaya, na pinagmumulan ng 30 porsiyento ng enerhiya ng Luzon.

Nabanggit ni Marcos na maaring magsilbing solusyon sa isyu ang isinusulong niyang pag-amyenda sa Philippine Competition Law.

“This will allow the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and Philippine Competition Commission to better manage what ERC chief Agnes Devanadera called “pricing play” in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM),” aniya.
