Canadian senator hiniling ang pagpapalaya na kay Sen. Leila de Lima
Iginiit na ni Canadian Senator Marilou McPhedran ang agarang pagpapalaya kay Senator Leila de Lima.
Naghain ng mosyon si McPhedran sa House of Commons ng Canada para kondenahin ang maling pagpapakulong kay de Lima.
Ang mosyon ay sinuportahan naman agad ni Canadian Sen. Leo Housakos sa paniniwala na ipinaglalaban lang naman ni de Lima ang hustisya, katotohanan at korapsyon.
“Honorable colleagues, we know that a working democracy requires dedicated persons both in government and civil society to be able to scrutinize governments and hold to account those in power. And these include Senators in Canada and Senators in the Philippines,” ang sabi ni McPhedran sa inihain niyang Motioon No. 75.
Banggit pa nito, may ilan na rin mambabatas mula sa isang bansa ang hiniling ang pagpapalaya kay de Lima.
Kasama na dito aniya ang European Parliament, the Australian Parliament, the ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) at ang US Congress.
“She stood up, when she was a minister, against drug trafficking and against a drug cartel. She stood up against corruption. And of course, the price she has paid is to have the Duterte administration in the Philippines press trumped-up charges against her,” sinabi naman ni Housakos na tumutukoy kay de Lima.
