Impeachment complaint laban kay SC Justice Leonen hawak na ng House Committee on Justice

Hawak na ng House Committee on Justice ang impeachment complaint laban kay Supreme Court Associate Justice Marvic Leonen.

Ayon kay House Majority Leader Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, mayroong “exclusive power” ang Kamara na tanggapin ang lahat ng impeachment complaint, alinsunod sa Section 3, Article XI ng 1987 Constitution.

Nakasaad sa batas na ang Kamara ay may mandato na aksyunan ang “verified complaint for impeachment” na inihain ng sinumang indibidwal na i-eendorso ng isang kongresista.

Tiwala naman si Romualdez na magiging patas at maayos ang paghawak ng Justice Committee sa reklamong impeachment, batay sa constitutional grounds at alinsunod sa mga panuntunan.

Ang impeachment complaint laban kay Justice Leonen, na isinampa ng isang Edwin Cordevilla at inendorso ni Ilocos Norte Rep. Angelo Barba ay nag-ugat sa alegasyong hindi paghahain ng mahistrado ng kanyang Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Networth o SALN, at sinasabing delayed na pagresolba niya sa mga kasong kanyang hinahawakan.

Bago i-refer ang reklamong impeachment laban kay Leonen sa Justice panel ng Kamara ay nagkaroon muna ng pulong ng House Committee on Rules.

Nagkasundo ang mga miyembro ng komite na i-adopt ang mosyon ni Iloilo City Rep. Jam Baronda na isama na sa “calendar of business” ang Leonen impeachment.
