Posibleng kaugnayan ng Chinese reclamation projects sa WPS at illegal mining sa Zambales, pinaiimbestigahan

Hiniling ni Senator Leila de Lima na maimbestigahan sa Senado ang napaulat na illegal mining operations sa Candelaria, Zambales at ang maaring kaugnayan nito sa illegal reclamation projects ng China sa West Philippine Sea.

Sa inihain ng senadora na Senate Resolution No. 720, nais din nitong magkaroon ng pagsusuri sa lahat ng nakabinbin at nagpapatuloy na large-scle mining projects sa buong bansa.

Paliwanag niya, ito ay para malaman kung ang mga minahan ay nakakasunod sa lahat ng batas pang-kalikasan.

“It cannot be gainsaid that the adverse effects, disastrous consequences, serious injury and irreparable damage of this continued trend of the destruction of nature to the present generation and to generations yet unborn are evident and incontrovertible,” katuwiran nito.

Nabanggit niya ang sulat ng Save Candelaria Zambales Movement Inc. na nagsasabing isang Yinglong Steel Corp. ang nagsasagawa ng ilegal na pagmimina sa bayan ng Candelaria.

Duda ng grupo, ang mga materyales na nakukuha ng Yinglong ay ang ginagamit sa pagpapagawa ng China ng reclamation at military infrastructures sa West Philippine Sea.

Nabanggit din ni de Lima ang pagpapalabas ni Pangulong Duterte ng EO No. 130 na bumawi sa halos isang dekada ng moratorium sa bagong kasunduan sa pagmimina.
