Harassment at panloloko sa paniningil ng mga utang ikinabahala ni Sen. Win Gatchalian

Nabahala si Senator Sherwin Gatchalian sa mga sumbong ng malawakang harassment at panloloko na ginagawa ng lending companies para makasingil sila ng kanilang mga pautang.

Ibinahagi ni Gatchalian na may 20,000 ang nagsumbong sa kanila ng pananakot, pagbabanta, panghihiya at iba pang uri ng pang-aabuso.

Aniya marami sa mga nagsumbong ang naloko ng ibat-ibang modus dahil sa matinding pangangailangan dala ng pandemya.

“It’s disturbing to hear from the complainants that they have been subjected to not just public-shaming but even death threats. It appears that from the onset, some of these lending companies are out to dupe those vulnerable to predatory lending. This has to stop,” sabi ng senador.

Sabi niya makakatulong ang inihan niyang panukala noong nakaraang taon, ang Senate Bill No. 1336 o ang  Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, para protektahan ang mga konsyumer sa mga nakakalokong online financing.

“Alam nating lahat na obligasyon ng nangutang ang magbayad ng kanyang utang. Kung pumalya sa pagbabayad ang nangutang, dapat idaan sa tama at ligal na proseso at hindi sa paraan na kailangang gamitan ng dahas, pananakot at pamamahiya sa taong nangutang,” sabi pa ng vice chairman ng Senate Committee on Banks, Financial Institutions and Currencies.
