Konsumo ng kuryente ngayon ‘summer’ patuloy na bumababa – DOE

Sa kabila ng pananatili ng marami sa kani-kanilang bahay dahil sa quarantine restrictions at ngayon ay panahon ng tag-init, ibinahagi ng Department of Energy na patuloy na bumababa ang konsumo ng kuryente sa bansa.

Sa isinagawang joint congressional hearing kaugnay sa pangangailangan at suplay ng kuryente sa bansa, sinabi ni Mario Marasigan, ng DOE – Electric Power Industry Management Bureau, mababa ang naging konsumo ng kuryente sa pagpapatupad ng community quarantine.

“Based on our assessment, the consumption continues to decline. We will not be able to reach the projected 11,841 peak,” sabi nito at aniya ang tanging hamon lang sa sektor ng kuryente ay ang maintenance.

Direktang tinanong din ni Senador Sherwin Gatchalian si Marasigan kung makakaranas ng ‘summer blackout’ sa bansa at ayon sa huli walang inaasahang pagkawala ng kuryente.

Sa nasabi din pagdinig, sinabi naman ni Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi na tataas ang halaga ng kuryente sa paglalagay ng ancillary service plants para matiyak ang maayos na suplay ng kuryente.

“For those ancillary services, there is a cost we have to accept. No investor will put out those plant without generating revenue to recover that investment. The question is, do we need that? What is the cost if we don’t need that? There is a higher cost if we don’t. We have an electricity market and the prices are spiking,” sagot ni Cusi sa tanong ni Senador Nancy Binay.
