Maritime exercises sa West Philippines Sea isinagawa ng PCG at BFAR

Nagsagawa ng maritime exercises ang mga tauhan ng Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) at Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) sa West Philippines Sea.

Ayon kay Coast Guard Spokesperson Commodore Armand Balillo, lulan ng walong mga barko ng pamahalaan sinimulan ang pagsasanay kahapon, araw ng Sabado.

Sabi ni Balilo, ang nasabing maritime exercises sa pangunguna ng Task Force Pagsasanay ay naglalayong makamit ang operational at logistical efficiency para maayos na magamit ang manpower at assets ng PCG.

“We are supporting the whole-of-nation approach in securing our maritime jurisdiction, especially the efforts of the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) to undertake maritime security, maritime safety, maritime law enforcement, maritime search and rescue, and marine environmental protection roles in our country’s waters,” pahayag ni Balilo.

Bukod sa WPS, nagsagawa rin ng maritime exercises sa Batanes Group of Islands, Benham Rise, gayundin sa southern at eastern portions ng bansa.

Kabilang sa pagsasanay ang may kaugnayan sa  navigation, small boat operations, maintenance, at logistical operations.

Sakay ng mga barko ng PCG ang mga tauhan nito na kinabibilangan ng mga abogado, doctor, nurse, rescue swimmers, weapons, communications, information systems technicians, at iba pang maritime specialists na sumailalim din sa lectures at drills may kaugnayan sa manual plotting, piloting, firefighting, at basic life support.

Ang mga barko ng PCG na BRP Gabriela Silang at BRP Sindangan ay nagsimulang sa kanilang maritime training malapit sa Bajo De Masinloc habang ang BRP Cabra, BRP Malapascua at mga barko ng BFAR ay noong nakalipas na linggo malapit sa Pagasa Island.

Nauna nang ipinag-utos ni Coast Guard Commandant Admiral George Ursabia Jr. ang pag-activate ng Task Force Pagsasanay sa pamumuno ni Vice Admiral Oscar Endona, commander ng Maritime Security Command ng PCG.

Kasabay nito magsasagawa rin ang PCG ng medical at dental missions  sa mga residente ng Pag-asa Island sa susunod na linggo.
