‘ECQ deaths’ nais maimbestigahan ni Sen. Leila de Lima sa Senado
Nanawagan si Senator Leila de Lima para maimbestigahan sa Senado ang mga napapa-ulat na paglabag sa mga karapatang-pantao sa pag-iral ng enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) sa Metro Manila at apat na katabing lalawigan.
Sa inihain niyang Senate Resolution No. 703, sinabi ni de Lima na ang walang katuturan na pagkamatay ng mga ECQ violators sa kamay ng mga awtoridad ay malinaw na pang-aabuso sa kapangyarihan.
Binanggit nito ang naging kaso ni Darren Manaog Peñaredondo ng Gen. Trias, Cavite, na namatay matapos parusahan ng ‘exhaustive exercise’ dahil sa pagbili ng tubig habang umiiral ang curfew hour.
Pagkain naman ang hinahanap ni Enanie Jimenez nang sitahin siya ng mga tanod sa Calamba City.
Namatay si Peñaredondo bunga ng malupit na pagpa-ehersisyo sa kanya ng mga pulis, samantalang si Jimenez naman ay namatay din dahil sa sinasabing pambubugbog sa kanya ng dalawang tanod.
“Measures must be taken to ensure respect of our constitutionally-guaranteed rights, especially by the State who is duty bound to maintain peace and order, to protect life, liberty and property and to promote the general welfare of the public,” sabi ni de Lima.
