Pagtatakda ng taripa bahagi ng kapangyarihan ng Kongreso, ayon sa mga senador
Nagkaisa ang 19 senador sa pagsusulong ng resolusyon na humihimok kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na bawiin nito ang ipinalabas na Executive Order No. 128 na nagbaba sa taripa ng imported meat products.
Sa resolusyon na iniakda ni Minority Leader Frank Drilon, binanggit nito na ang base sa umiiral na batas sa bansa ang pagtatakda ng taripa ay bahagi ng kapangyarihan ng Kongreso.

“(I)t is Congress which authorizes the President to impose tariff rates, import and export quotas, tonnage and wharfage dues, and other duties or imposts and that such authorization can be exercised only within the specified limits set in the law and is further subject to limitations and restrictions which Congress may impose,” anng nakasaad sa resolusyon.
Babala ni Drilon sa pagbaba ng taripa na sasabayan ng pagtaas ng Minimum Access Volume o MAV, mamamatay ang lokal na industriya ng pag-aalaga ng baboy.

Nakasaad din sa resolusyon na hindi rin maaring ipatupad ang pagtaas ng MAV sa imported pork products mula 54,210 metric tons sa 350,000 metric tons ay hindi rin maaring ipatupad dahil ang rekomendasyon mula sa Malakanyang ay ipinadala sa Senado ng walang sesyon.
