BI, nagbabala ukol sa modus na nambibiktima ng mga dating OFW
Naharang ng mga miyembro ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) Travel Control and Enforcement Unit (TCEU) ang pag-alis ng isang illegal recruitment victim sa Clark International Airport.
Patungo sana ang biktima sa Dubai via Emirates Airlines flight noong April 5, 2021.
Iprinisinta ng biktima ang overseas employment certificate (OEC) bilang Balik Manggagawa.
Ngunit, napansin ng isang immigration officer ang hindi pagkakapare-pareho sa mga dokumento nito kung kaya ni-refer sa mga miyemrbo ng BI TCEU para sa mas malalim na inspeksyon.
Nalaman ng TCEU officers na huling dumating sa bansa ang biktima taong 2019 at mayroong Dubai work visa.
Nang iberipika, napag-alamang kanselado na ang work visa nito at mayroon na itong aktibong tourist visa.
“We commend the quick eye of our immigration officers, which allowed them to uncover this modus,” pahayag ni Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente.
Sa nasabing modus, ang mga dating OFW na mayroong expired visas at contracts ay bibigyan ng bagong tourist visas upang makabiyahe at ilegal na magtrabaho bilang turista gamit ang kanilang dating OEC records.
“This is an obvious circumvention of the law, and victims are promised that they can depart using their old OECs that are, in fact, invalid already,” ani Morente at dagdag pa nito, “Victims end up working for a different employer, or worse, fly off to a third country like Iraq or Syria.”
