CHR, magsasagawa ng hiwalay na imbestigasyon sa pagpanaw ng curfew violator sa Laguna
Nagparating ng pagkabahala ang Commission on Human Rights (CHR) sa pagpanaw ng isang curfew violator sa Calamba, Laguna.
Nasawi ang biktimang si Ernanie Lumban matapos umanong bugbugin ng grupo ng barangay tanod sa bahagi ng Purok 2 sa Barangay Turbina sa Calamba.
“It is strongly condemnable that the curfew policy, which is supposed to protect our right to health, became the reason for the deprivation of the utmost right to life,” pahayag ni Atty. Jacqueline Ann de Guia, tagapagsalita ng CHR.
Ang pambubugbog aniya sa isang minor offense ay maaaring katumbas ng torture.
Maikokonsidera aniya ang excessive punishment bilang grave abuse of authority at sinumang mapatunayang responsable rito ay dapat managot.
Dahil dito, muling umapela ang CHR na magpatupad ng community service sa mga quarantine violator, bilang alternatibong parusa.
“In these difficult times, compassionate and human rights-based approach are essential in implementing quarantine rules to truly address the plight of all, especially the disadvantaged ones,” saad pa ni de Guia.
Nakiramay ang CHR sa naiwang pamilya ng biktima.
Sinabi rin ni de Guia na nagsasagawa na ang CHR Region IV-A quick response team ng hiwalay na imbestiagasyon sa kaso upang makamit ang katotohanan at hustisya sa biktima.
