AFP Chief of Staff Sobejana: Navy ships ipapadala sa West Philippine Sea

Ipinag-utos ni AFP Chief of Staff General Cirilito Sobejana Jr., ang pagpapadala ng mga barko ng Philippine Navy sa West Philippine Sea dahil sa pagsuway ng China na paalisin ang kanilang mga barko sa Julian Felipe Reef.

Sinabi ni AFP spokesman, Maj. Gen. Edgard Arevalo, ang hakbang ay pagpapalakas ng pagsasagawa ng maritime sovereigny patrols sa West Philippine Sea bunsod na rin ng patuloy na presensiya ng mga Chinese militia sa Julian Felipe Reef.

Ang naturang bahagi ng WPS ay pasok sa exclusive economic zone (EEZ) ng Pilipinas.

“By the increased naval presence in the area, we seek to reassure our people of the AFP’s strong and unwavering commitment to protect and defend them from harassment and ensure that they enjoy their rights over the country’s rich fishing ground which is the source of their livelihood,” sabi pa ni Arevalo.

Noong nakaraang Marso 7, iniulat ng Philippine Coast Guard ang presensiya ng 220 Chinese vessels sa Julian Felipe Reef at ang Department of Foreign Affairs ay naghain na ng diplomatic protest.

Ipinagpipilitan naman ng Chinese Embassy na ang Julian Felipe Reef ay tinatawag nilang Niu’e Jiao, na bahagi ng Nansha administrative district sa South China Sea.
