Sen. Cynthia Villar: 3.5M coco farmers makikinabang sa pagbuo ng trust fund

Kumikita lang kada buwan ng P1,500 ang mga magniniyog sa bansa at ito sa paniniwala ni Senator Cynthia Villar ay magbabago sa pagpirma ni Pangulong Duterte ng batas na bubuo ng trust fund para sa 3.5 milyong coconut farmers sa bansa.

Aniya marami sa mga magsasaka sa 68 lalawigan ay hindi hihigit sa limang ektarya ang kanilang  taniman.

“The coconut farmers are the poorest in the country. They earn only about P1,500 a month. This fund which rightfully belongs to the coconut farmers, should be plowed back to them for their own direct benefit,” sabi ng namumuno sa Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food.

Umaasa din si Villar na sa pamamagitan ng Coconut Farmers and Industry Trust Fund Act mareresolba ang ilang dekada ng isyu ukol sa coco levy fund, kasabay ng pag-unlad ng industriya ng pagniniyog sa Pilipinas.

Nakasaad sa batas, huhugot ng P75 bilyon mula sa coco levy fund sa susunod na limang taon para maging trust fund ng mga magniniyog.

Nakasaad din sa batas na kinakailangan na may kinatawan ang mga magniniyog, mula Luzon, Visayas at Mindanao sa Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Board para tumulong sa pagbuo sa Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan.
