Myanmar, Malaysia nahigitan ng Pilipinas sa internet speed sa mobile broadband
Nahigitan na ng Pilipinas ang Malaysia at Myanmar pagdating sa internet speed sa mobile broadband.
Ayon kay Makati City Rep. Luis Campos Jr., base sa January Speedtest Global Index, ang mobile internet speed sa bansa ay tumaas mula sa 22.50 patungong 25.77 megabits per second (Mbps)
Dahil dito, umakyat din ang Pilipinas sa world ranking mula sa dating pang-96 patungo sa pang-86.
“There’s no question the political pressure brought to bear on telecommunications companies is starting to bear fruit,” ayon kay Campos.
Sinabi ni Campos na mismong si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang nagbanta sa mga telecommunications company sa ikalimang State of the Nation Address hinggil sa kanilang serbisyo.
Ani Campos, kapwa ding pinaghahandaan ng Globe at PLDT ang pagpasok ng kanilang bagong ka-kumpetensya na DITO Telecommunity.
Base sa pinakahuling global index, pang-anim na ang Pilipinas sa Philippines sa mobile internet speed sa 10 miyembro ng Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean).
Naungusan ng Pilipinas ang Myanmar (25.21 Mbps, 88th worldwide) at Malaysia (23.74 Mbps, 94th).
At nanatili ding nauuna sa Cambodia (19.98 Mbps, 106th) at Indonesia (17.33 Mbps, 121st).
Ang limang ASEAN members na may mas mabilis na mobile internet speeds ay ang Singapore (66.44 Mbps, 22nd worldwide); Thailand (50.00 Mbps, 36th); Brunei (36.75 Mbps, 56th); Vietnam (34.68 Mbps, 62nd); at Laos (27.55 Mbps, 80th).
Pinakamabilis naman sa buong mundo ang internet speed sa United Arab Emirates (183.03 Mbps, 1st); South Korea (171.26 Mbps, 2nd); at Qatar (170.65 Mbps, 3rd).
Sa fixed broadband speed, bumuti din ang lagay ng Pilipinas mula sa datinf e Philippines 31.44 patungong 32.73 Mbps.
Ang Pilipinas ay nasa pang-100 sa world ranking at pang-6 sa Asean sa fixed broadband speed.
Kaugnay nito isinulong ni Campos na maisabatas ang panukala na magbibigay ng kapangyarihan sa National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) para makapagtakda ito ng compulsory deadlines sa industry players sa paghahatid ng mas mabilis na nternet speeds.
Maari ring magpataw ng mas mabibigat na parusa at multa ang NTC.
Layon din ng panukala na gawing basic telecommunications service sa bansa ang high-speed internet.
Ayon kay Campis, dahil ang
internet connection ay itinuturing na Value Added Service sa bansa, ang mga telecommunications firms ay may layang magtakda ng terms of the service.
