“They have to pay.”
Pahayag ito ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte kung nais ng Amerika na mapanatili ang Visiting Forces Agreemenet sa pagitan ng dalawang bansa.
Ayon sa Pangulo, nahaharap kasi sa peligro ang Pilipinas sakaling magkagulo ang Amerika at China.
“I would like to put on notice if there’s an American agent here, that from now on, you want the Visiting Forces Agreement done? Well, they have to pay. It’s a shared responsibility, but your share of responsibility does not come free. Because after all, when the war breaks out, we all pay. You, kami, we are nearest to the garrison there where there are a lot of arsenals of the Chinese armed forces,” pahayag ng Pangulo.
Gayunman, hindi na tinukoy ng Pangulo kung anong klaseng bayad ang gagawin ng Amerika.
Ginawa ng Pangulo ang pahayag isang araw matapos mag-umpisa ang mga opisyal ng Pilipinas at Amerika na mag-usap kaugnay sa security cooperation.
Matatandaang ipinag-utos ni Pangulong Duterte noong nakaraang taon na ibasura na ang VFA.
