UP academic freedom gustong pagtibayin ni Sen. Leila de Lima

Naghain ng panukalang-batas si Senator Leila de Lima para mapagtibay ang academic freedom sa University of the Philippines (UP).

Sinabi ni de Lima layon ng kanyang Senate Bill No. 2035 na maamyendahan ang RA 9500 o ang The University of the Philippines Charter of 2008.

Paliwanag niya nais niya na mapangalagaan ang pagpapalitan at pagpapahayag ng mga ideya sa loob ng pamantasan laban sa mga mapanupil na puwersa ng estado.

“While it is important to protect our national security, it is likewise important to afford our academic institutions the democratic space conducive to free exchange of ideas and critical thinking, which leads to more effective participation in the national conversation,” diin ni de Lima.

Dagdag pa nito, layon din ng kanyang panukalang batas na maging permanente na ang 1989 UP – DND Accord.

Paglilinaw din niya, walang anuman nilalaman ang panukala na pumipigil sa mga civilian law enforcement units, kasama na ang PNP, na ipatupad ang kanilang mandato sa loob ng pamantasan.
