Yumaong Sen. John Osmeña, pinapurihan sa Senado
Umani ng mga papuri bilang mambabatas ang yumaong Senator John Henry Osmeña sa mga senador.
Sa kanyang talumpati sa inihain niyang Senate Resolution 635, nagbigay ng mensahe ng pakikiramay si Senate President Vicente Sotto III sa mga naulila ng dating senador.
Ayon kay Sotto, sa murang edad pa lang ay eksperto na sa pagseserbisyo sa kapwa si Osmeña.
“Coming from a well-known political family, being the grandson of the late President Sergio Osmeña Sr. And a nephew of former Sen. Sergio Osmeña Jr., it could be surmised that a lot of pressure were put on him to be able to follow the footsteps of his grandfather, or leave a lasting legacy, like his ancestors did,” sabi ni Sotto.
Dagdag nito, “but certainly that was not the case for Sen. Sonny Osmeña. He made a name for himself. He was a great leader in his own right.”
Isinalarawan naman ni Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri si Osmeña na mahusay at tapat sa pagiging lingkod-bayan.
Kuwento nito, nabansagan na ‘Lone Ranger of the Senate’ si Osmeña dahil sa pagiging independent-minded at paninindigan nito ang kanyang paniniwala sa mga isyu kahit taliwas ito sa posisyon ng mayorya.
Namatay si Osmeña sa kanyang condominium unit sa Cebu City, araw ng Martes (February 2, 2021), sa edad na 86.
