Tourist visa extension applications, bumaba ng halos 45 porsyento – BI
Iniulat ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) na bumaba ng halos 45 porsyento ang bilang ng mga aplikasyon para sa tourist visa extension sa taong 2020.
Ayon kay BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, nakapagproseso ang Tourist Visa Section (TVS) ng kabuuang 240,276 applications para sa pagpapalawig ng pananatili ng mga turista.
Mas mababa ito nang 44.67 porsyento kumpara sa naitalang 434,251 applications noong 2019.
Ani Morente, inaasahan na ang pagbaba ng bilang kasunod ng ipinatutupad ng restrictions sa pagpasok ng mga dayuhan sa bansa bunsod ng COVID-19.
“International travel restrictions remain in place even as we anticipate a gradual lifting of these restrictions this year as the vaccines against COVID-19 begin to arrive,” pahayag nito.
Dagdag pa ng hepe ng BI, “We hope that the tourism industry will finally rebound at least by the second or third quarter of 2021 and the Philippines will once again open its doors to foreign visitors.”
Samantala, dahil sa entry restrictions ng mga dayuhan, bumaba rin aniya ang halaga ng visa extension fees sa taong 2020.
Sinabi ni Morente na umabot lamang sa P1.3 bilyon ang koleksyon ng BI mula sa visa extension fees.
40 porsyento itong mas mababa kumpara sa halos P2.2 bilyong nakolekta noong 2019.
“Despite the low numbers for 2020, we remain hopeful that the tourism industry can bounce back this year,” ani Morente.
