DENR tutulong sa mine rehab sa Tumbagaan Island, Tawi-Tawi

Hindi mag-aatubili ang Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) na bigyang ayuda at ibigay ang kanilang kaalaman upang makatulong sa rehabilitasyon sa pinagminahang lugar sa Tumbagaan Island sa Tawi-Tawi sa Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Ayon kay DENR Undersecretary for Enforcement, Mining, and Muslim Affairs Jim Sampulna, bagaman hindi sakop ng DENR ang Tawi-Tawi ay nakahanda pa rin ang ahensiya na tulungan ang BARMM’s Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, and Energy (MENRE) para sa kanilang environment-related initiatives.

Sinabi pa ni Sampulna na nagbigay na ng direktiba si DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu na maghanda sakaling manghingi ng tulong ang BARMM government.

“If they will seek technical assistance, we are willing to extend expertise, not just in mining but in all other aspects that BARMM needs such as in lands, forestry, biodiversity, and environment,” pahayag ng opisyal

Nilinaw din ni Sampulna na walang awtoridad ang DENR na magsagawa ng mining-related operation sa Tawi-Tawi kasunod ng kahilingan ng publiko na umaksiyon ang DENR sa kautusan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte na ipahinto ang mining activities sa Tumbagaan Island.

“However, the DENR fully supports the order of the President to suspend the mining operations in said area for its rehabilitation,” dagdag ng opisyal.

“BARMM is now conducting an investigation on the site to fast track the rehabilitation,” ayon kay Sampulna.
