Panukala upang magbibigay proteksyon sa media workers, lusot na sa Kamara

Pasado na sa ikatlo at huling pagbasa ng Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso ang Magna Carta para sa mga taga-midya.

Sa botong 218 na yes at walang pagtutol, lumusot ang House Bill 8140 o ang Media Workers Welfare Act na inakda ni ACT-CIS Rep. Nina Taduran.

Layon ng panukala na bigyang proteksyon, seguridad at maayos na benepisyo ang media practitioners ng bansa.

Sakop ng panukala ang pagbibigay ng tamang sahod, security of tenure, hazard at overtime pay, insurance at iba pang benepisyo para sa media workers.

Kabilang dito ang pagiging miyembro ng Social Security System, PAGIBIG, at Philippine Health Insurance Corp. sa oras na matanggap sa trabaho.

Ipinakukunsidera na regular employee ang isang media worker matapos ang anim na buwan ng tuluy-tuloy na employment nito.

Ang mga miyembro naman ng media na aatasan na mag-cover sa dangerous at hazardous events o situations ay bibigyan ng karagdagang ₱500 arawang sahod bukod pa sa protective gears o equipment.

Pinabibigyan din ng karagdagang insurance ang media workers na ₱200,000 death benefits at P200,000 disability benefits, at P100,000 medical insurance benefits.

Bubuo naman ng isang Media Tripartite Council na siyang titiyak na nasusunod ang pagbibigay proteksyon sa mga taga-media.
