Internet download speed, tumaas ng 297% simula nang maupo sa pwesto si Pangulong Duterte
Sa pagtatapos ng taong 2020, naitala ang all-time high average download speed sa bansa sa ilalim ng Duterte administration.
Umabot sa 297.47 porsyento at 202.41 porsyento ang naitalang pagtaas ng internet download speed para sa fixed broadband at mobile broadband.
Batay ito sa report ng Ookla.
Nang maupo sa pwesto ang Pangulo noong July 2016, ang average download speed sa bansa para sa fixed at mobile broadband ay 7.91 Mbps at 7.44 Mbps lamang.
Magugunitang paulit-ulit ang naging babala ni Pangulong Duterte sa mga telco na ayusin ang kanilang serbisyo.
Base sa mahigit 10 million unique speed tests sa ginawang crowdsourcing ng Oookla noong December 2020, ang average download speed para sa fixed at mobile broadband ay umabot sa 31.44 Mbps at 22.50 Mbps.
Bago ang year-end report na ito ng Ookla, sinabi ng mga telco na umabot sa 500 porsyento ang pagtaas ng data usage na kanilang naitala mula nang magkaroon ng pandemya ng COVID-19 pandemic.
Nahirapan din ang mga telco sa pag-upgrade ng kanilang cellular sites dahil sa COVID-related restrictions sa bansa na sinundan pa ng mga kalamidad.
Pero mula nang suportahan ng pamahalaan ang mas mabilis na pagkakaloob ng permit para sa pagtatayo ng cellular towers nakatulong ito ng malaki sa mga telco.
Katunayan, ayon kay Globe Atty. Froilan Castelo, ang Globe General Counsel noon ay inaabot ng ilang taon at 29 permits ang kailangan nila para sa pagtatayo ng cell sites.
Pero naging mabilis na ang proseso dahil sa Bayanihan To Recover as One Act.
“Previously, we needed to wait and spend years to complete at least 29 permits. But with the help of the Bayanihan To Recover as One Act, LGUs are now enabled to become more open and supportive of our network roll-outs, especially in the past weeks,” ayon kay Castelo.
Inanunsyo naman ng Smart Communications, Inc. na magdaragdag sila ng 2,000 cell sites sa taong 2021 para mas maiayos pa ang kanilang serbisyo.
Samantala, sinabi naman ni DITO Chief Administrative Officer Adel Tamano, Dito na nakapagtayo na sila ng 1,900 telecommunications towers hanggang December 2020.
Ito ay bilang paghahanda sa commercial launch na target isagawa sa March 2021.
“President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive is very clear- to improve Internet connectivity in the Philippines to help the Filipino people better adapt to the new normal. That is why the DICT is doubling its efforts in accelerating the implementation of various digital connectivity initiatives, especially the National Broadband Program,” ayon kay DICT Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan.
