Pagsukat ng rainfall tuwing may bagyo, hindi kayang masukat ng PAGASA

Inamin ng Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) na hirap silang matukoy ang eksaktong dami ng buhos ng ulan tuwing may bagyo.

Sa pagdinig ng House Committee on Agriculture at Special Committee on North Luzon Quadrangle, sinabi ni PAGASA Administrator Vicente Malano na 50 hanggang 60 percent lamang ang accuracy ng amount ng rainfall na kanilang nasusukat.

Worldwide aniya ang problema sa pagsukat ng accuracy ng rainfall at hindi lamang ang meteorogical service ng Pilipinas ang nakakaranas nito.

Sinabi nito na kulang ang bansa sa monitoring facilities at limitado rin ang mga lugar na mapaglalagyan nila ng pasilidad.

Pero sa ngayon ay gumagawa na ng paraan ang PAGASA dahil may anim na radars na ilalagay sa iba’t ibang lugar sa bansa na ipupwesto sa river basins.

Target naman ng PAGASA na gawing 65 porsyento ang forecast sa amount of rainfall sa oras na maipwesto na ang radars.
