Rehabilitasyon sa ‘food baskets’ ng Pilipinas, dapat maging prayoridad – Sen. Recto

Tinaob ng bagyo ang isang malaking kaldero ng bayan.

Ito ang sinabi ni Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto kaugnay sa pinsalang idinulot ng bagyong Ulysses sa sektor ng agrikultura sa Cagayan Valley at Central Luzon Regions.

Aniya, ang dalawang rehiyon ay kapwa itinuturing na ‘food baskets’ ng Pilipinas.

Dagdag nito, 38 porsiyento ng suplay ng palay sa bansa ay nagmumula sa Isabela, Cagayan, Pangasinan, Bulacan at Pampanga at sa anim na lalawigan din nagmumula ang 37 porsiyento ng suplay ng manok at malaking bahagi din ng suplay ng karne ng baboy.

Kayat hirit ng senador, kailangang gawing prayoridad ng gobyerno ang maagap na pagbibigay tulong sa mga naapektuhang magsasaka sa dalawang rehiyon.

“Urgently rehabilitating Ulysses-hit farmlands is a must if we want to eat tomorrow. Helping the farmers in these areas helps us more than it helps them. COVID kills by hunger. We should not allow typhoons to make a pandemic more brutal,” sabi pa ni Recto.

Dapat aniya makasama ang pondo para sa rehabilitasyon ng mga lupain sa 2021 national budget.
