Halos 3,000 Chinese, ipinag-utos ng BI na umalis ng bansa
Ipinag-utos ni Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente ang pagpapaalis sa halos 3,000 Chinese nationals dahil sa paglabag sa kondisyon ng kanilang visa.
Ayon kay Morente, mula Enero hanggang Oktubre, nasa kabuuang 2,736 Chinese nationals ang nabigyan ng visas upon arrival (VUA) ngunit nabigong umalis ng bansa sa kanilang itinakdang departure date.
Sa ilalim ng batas, hindi pinapayagan ang VUA grantees na manatili sa bansa nang lagpas sa 30 araw.
“More than half of those who were ordered to leave were blacklisted from our country,” pahayag ni Morente.
“While some were unable to leave due to circumstance, following the cancellation of many flights due to the pandemic, those who stayed without sufficient basis were included in our blacklist,” dagdag pa nito.
Ang VUA program na proyekto ng Department of Tourism (DOT) at Department of Justice (DOJ) ay inilunsad tatlong taon na ang nakakalipas para maengganyo ang mga Chinese tourist at tour groups na makabisita ng Pilipinas nang hindi kinakailangan ng pag-aapply ng visa sa Philippine consulates sa kanilang lugar.
“VUA arrivals account for only around 5% of total Chinese arrivals in the country. Most of those who arrived already secured their entry visas from our foreign posts abroad,” ani Morente.
Paliwanag pa ng ahensya, nag-aapply ang VUA grantees sa pamamagitan ng tour operators na accredited ng DOT.
Ngunit, sinuspinde ng BI ang immplementasyon nito noong Enero upang mapabagal ang pagdating ng Chinese tour groups.
Nananatiling suspendido ang naturang programa kasabay ng pagpapatupad ng restrictions ng gobyerno sa pagpasok ng mga dayuhan dahil sa banta ng COVID-19.
