Sen. Drilon, pinansin ang mabagal na modernisasyon ng AFP

Inusisa ni Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon ang mabagal na pagpapatupad ng AFP Modernization Program.

Sa deliberasyon para sa 2021 budget ng Department of National Defense (DND), binanggit ni Drilon ang madalas na paghihimutok na napapag-iwanan ang bansa sa usapin ng modernisadong sandatahang-lakas ngunit aniya, ang maaring problema ay ang paggamit ng pondo para sa programa.

Aniya, sa 2019 General Appropriations Act, P16 bilyon lang sa nailaan na P25 bilyon ang nagamit ng kagawaran kayat ang P9.4 bilyon ay ibinalik sa National Treasury.

Sa taong 2020, higit P8 bilyon ang hindi rin nagamit ng AFP.

“For 2019, out of P25 billion you have disbursed about P16 billion leaving a balance of P9.4 billion. If we cannot disburse P25 billion in 2019, the P38 billion looks like a challenge to me,” sabi ni Drilon kay Defense Sec. Delfin Lorenzana.

Diin ng senador, napakahalaga ng pagpapalakas ng depensa ng bansa para protektahan ang interes ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea.
