Ahas natuklasan ng Customs sa mga kargamento ng rattan basket
Natuklasan ng mga tauhan ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) isang uri ng reticulated python mula sa kargamento sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Ang python ay nasa listahan ng Injurious on the Lacey Act and importation sa Amerika.
Ang buhay na python ay nakita sa mula sa outbound parcel sa DHL warehouse.
Idineklarang “wood curtains, lanters, rattan basket” ang kargamento na galing sa isang “Janrei Fernandez” ng Sampaloc, Manila.
Dadalhin sana sa New York ang kargamento pero nang isailallim sa 100% physical examination ay nakita ang nakatagong python sa loob ng rattan basket.
Agad dinala sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) ang ahas.
Paalala ng Customs sa publiko, ang importation, exportation at pag-trade ng wildlife animals na walang karampatang permit ay maituturing na krimen sa ilalim ng Republic Act 9147 (Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act) in relation to R.A. 10863 (Customs Modernization and Tariff Act).
Ang mga lalabag ay maaring maharap sa hanggang dalawang taon na pagkakakulong at mapatawan ng multa na aabot sa P200,000.
