Full implementation ng automated collection system sa mga expressway na hawak ng Metro Pacific ipinakukunsidera
Ipinade-delay sa Enero ng sususnod na taon ni Ang Probinsyano Rep. Ronnie Ong sa Metro Pacific Tollways ang implementasyon ng full automated toll collection sa mga pinapatakbo nito tollways na nakatakdang magsimula sa November 2.
Ayon kay Ong, hindi napapanahon ang hakbang ngayon panahon ng pandemya dahil sa daan-daang mga toll collectors ang mawawalan ng trabaho kapag ipinatupad na ito.
Sabi ni Ong, “Besides, what would happen to our toll collectors if we go fully automated especially now that we are in the middle of the pandemic? Instead of using the RFID as an excuse purportedly to protect the toll collectors from the corona virus, the MPT should just equip them with proper Personal Protective Equipment and ensure that all health and safety protocols are strictly observed. Sana huwag na muna nilang ituloy yan”.
Bukod dito, may kanya-kanya anyang radio frequency identification o RFID ang iba’t-ibang toll operators kaya atubili ang mga motorista na magpalagay ng mga ito.
Iginiit ni Ong na hindi siya tutol sa para sa cashless tollway operation, kailangan anya na ipatupad ito kapag mayroon ng integrated electronic toll collection system ang mga expressway operators.
Maganda anya ito dahil sa is ana lamang na RFID ang gagamitin ng mga motorista sa iba’t-ibang tollways.
Mayroon anyang mga motorista na taga Norte na bihira magtungo sa South at gayundin naman ang mga taga South na hindi madalas magtungo sa Norte kaya hindi praktikal ang bumili ng RFID para sa bihirang byahe.
“I don’t know why Metro Pacific Tollways is in a rush to go fully cashless. For one, they should consider the fact that not all motorists are frequent travelers to the North especially those who live in the south. The government should not allow these tollway operators to have different RFID tags because this would mean additional financial burden for our motorists. Wag naman nila tadtarin ng RFID ang mga sasakyan ng motorista kung pwede namang isang RFID na lang sa lahat,” pahayag ni Ong.
Kinukwesyton din ng mambabatas kung bakit tahimik ang Toll Regulatory Board sa plano ng MPT.
Sa kasalukuyan, mayroong siyam na tollways sa Luzon na iba-iba ang nagpapatakbo kung saan hawak ng Metro Pacific Tollways ang North Luzon Expressway, Subic–Clark–Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) at ang Manila-Cavite Expressway.
