Anti-discrimination bills, inihirit ni Sen. Marcos na sertipikahang urgent

Lumikha ng galit sa LGBT+ community ang pagbibigay ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ng ‘absolute pardon’ kay dating US serviceman Joseph Scott Pemberton.

Bunga nito, umapela si Sen. Imee Marcos kay Pangulong Duterte na sertipikahan bilang ‘urgent’ ang nakabinbin sa Kongreso na mga panukala ukol sa SOGIE (sexual orientation, gender identity and expression).

“The outcry against Pemberton’s pardon despite the horrific killing of transgender Jennifer Laude will never be fully appeased until the bills on SOGIE (sexual orientation, gender identity and expression) are passed by Congress and signed into law,” sabi ni Marcos.

Paniwala ng senadora, maaaring maging garantiya ang pagsasabatas ng SOGIE bills na hindi na mauulit ang sinapit ni Laude sa mga miyembro ng LGBT+ community.

Sa kanyang pag-upo noong nakaraang taon, isa sa mga unang inihain na panukala ni Marcos ang kanyang bersyon ng SOGIE bill.

Aniya, nasa batas ang pagbibigay ng good conduct time allowance (GCTA) na pinagbasehan ni Pangulong Duterte nang pagbibigay ng absolute pardon kay Pemberton.

“The observance of law must not be replaced with an indulgence of emotion, nor the call for justice be replaced with a call for revenge,” dagdag pa ng senadora.
