Nagbabala sa publiko ang Bureau of Immigration (BI) ukol sa human trafficking.
Ito ay matapos maharang ng dalawang Immigration officer sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) ang pag-alis ng bansa ng dalawang babaeng Filipino na hinihinalang trafficking victims.
Patungo sana ang dalawa sa United Arab Emirates (UAE) noong nakaraang linggo ngunit naharang dahil sa fraudulent travel documents.
Ayon kay BI Travel Control and Enforcement Unit (TCEU) Head Ma. Timotea Barizo, pasakay sana ang dalawang pasahero ng Philippine Airlines flight papuntang Dubai noong September 1 nang maharang sila sa immigration departure area ng NAIA Terminal 1.
Inamin ng dalawa na papunta silang ibang bansa para magtrabaho ngunit lumabas na peke ang kanilang iprinisintang Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC).
“We were able to rescue these victims due to the vigilance of our primary inspectors who doubted the authenticity of their travel papers and referred them for secondary inspection instead of clearing them for departure,” ani Barizo.
Kasunod nito, may paalala si BI Commissioner Jaime Morente.
“We are warning our kababayans to not fall prey to the nefarious activities of these syndicates who do not feel any remorse in preying on our poor countrymen amidst the continuing COVID-19 pandemic,” pahayag ni Morente.
Ipinag-utos din ni Morente sa immigration officers sa naturang paliparan na maging mapagmatyag para maiwasan ang pag-alis ng mga pasahero na base sa kanilang assessment ay biktima ng human trafficking at illegal recruitment.
Samantala, dinala na ang dalawa sa Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) NAIA Task Force para sa isasagawa pang imbestigasyon.
