Sen. Grace Poe kontra sa hirit na regulatory powers ng MTRCB sa Netflix

“Katawa-tawa at hindi magbubunga ng maganda”.

Ito ang pagsasalarawan ni Sen. Grace Poe kaugnay sa hirit ng MTRCB na mabigyan ng ‘regulatory powers’ sa video streaming services, tulad ng Netflix.

Sinabi ni Poe na ang pangunahing trabaho ng MTRCB ay mag-classify at kasama sa mandato nito ang magbigay daan sa ‘self regulation.’

Diin pa ng senadora, na pinamunuan ang MTRCB walang nang sapat na tauhan at gamit ang ahensiya para suriin ang bawat programa o palabas sa cable.

Aniya kontra siya sa nais ng MTRCB.

Samantala, maging si Senate Minority Leader Frank Drilon ay kontra sa nais ng MTRCB.

Aniya dapat ay hayaan na lang ang mga nag-aalok ng video streaming services na mag-self regulate ng kanilang mga ipinapalabas.

Giit ni Drilon, libu-libo ang palabas sa Netflix pa lang at duda siya na magagawa ng MTRCB na suriin lahat.

“It’s very impractical. There are thousands of shows on Netflix alone – how will MTRCB review each one? Can the MTRCB review every single content that can be accessed through the internet? What will they do about virtual private networks that allow users to access content from other countries? If they insist on it, then taxpayers will be paying MTRCB only to stream movies and shows 24/7, 365 days,” sabi pa nito.
