MTRCB inihirit ang regulatory power sa Netflix, online streaming services

Hiningi ng Movie and Television Review and Classification Board o MTRCB sa Senado na bigyan sila ng regulatory power sa online streaming services tulad ng Netflix.

Inihirit ito ni MTRCB legal affairs chief Jonathan Presquito sa pagdinig ng Senate Committee on Trade sa pamumuno ni Sen. Koko Pimentel kaugnay sa isinusulong na Internet Transactions Act.

Nais din ni Presquito na masuri nila ang nilalaman ng mga palabas na napapanood sa pamamagitan ng online streaming.

Diin nito sa ilalim ng batas, may hurisdiksyon ang MTRCB sa lahat ng mga pelikula o programa sa anumang paraan ito napapanood.

“Even distributed electronically, that is within the jurisdiction of the MTRCB,” aniya.

Banggit nito, may mga naunang pag-uusap na ang iba pang kinauukulang ahensiya hinggil sa regulasyon sa Netflix, Amazon Prime, Iflix at iba pang streaming apps.

Aniya, dapat ay magparehistro ang mga ito sa MTRCB at magbayad ng mga kinauukulang buwis.

“Streaming services like Netflix are video-on-demand platforms and we have to regulate those platforms. We have to ensure that those materials being shown on those platforms are compliant with the MTRCB law,” sabi pa ni Presquito.

Hindi pa naman nakapagbitaw ng konkreto at malinaw na tugon ang mga senador dahil katuwiran nila, komplikado ang sitwasyon at kailangang pag-aralan nang mabuti.
