Retirement age na 65 sa AFP, isinusulong ni Sen. Gordon

Kumpiyansa si Senator Richard Gordon na pabor sa Armed Forces of the Philippines o AFP ang isinusulong niyang retirement age na 65 para sa mga sundalo, maging ang tatlong taon na fix term ng AFP chief of staff.

Aniya, sa ganitong paraan ay maipagpapatuloy ng namumuno sa AFP ang mga nais niyang programa at reporma para sa sandatahang-lakas.

Pinuna nito na maraming naitatalagang AFP chief of staff ay ilang buwan lang na nagtatagal sa puwesto dahil aabutin na nila ang kasalukuyang retirement age na 56.

“The persons at the helm of the AFP should be given ample time – even better security of tenure – to develop, test, and implement effective reforms and meaningful long-term plans and programs of the AFP. This would also stop the revolving door appointments in the AFP that lead to lack of continuity of policies and lack of successful implementation of programs,” sabi pa ng senador.

Dagdag katuwiran nito, sa mga panlabas at panloob na mga banta na kinahaharap ng bansa, nangangailangan ang AFP ng mga heneral na malawak ang karanasan.

“Kung may experience na mga yan and they retire at 65, they will not only have continuation of policy, consistency, discipline and everything like that. At the same time, kaya ko gusto yan, para ang tao makakapaghanda ng matino dun sa modernization ng ating military. Napapaligiran tayo ng mga threats, lahat ng mga katabi nating bayan mabibilis. Ang nangyayari, palit tayo ng palit,” sabi pa ni Gordon.

Inihain ni Gordon ang Senate Bill No. 1785 at aniya, pumayag na si Sen. Panfilo Lacson, ang chairman ng Committee on National Defense, na bumuo ng sub-committee na hahawak sa panukala.
